Forming Servant Leaders for a Multicultural Church: The Impact of MACC’s Deacon Formation Program

At the 2025 Deacons Gala, we celebrated the heart of MACC’s mission: forming servant leaders who embody faith, compassion, and cultural awareness. This video highlights the transformative journey of our Deacon Formation Program at the Mexican American Catholic College (MACC), where formation is not just about becoming a deacon—it is about becoming a servant of hope.
Over five years of study, prayer, and community, our deacon candidates—alongside their wives—embark on a shared spiritual journey. Their marriages become a source of strength and grace, as couples grow together in faith, lifting one another up and building a community rooted in love and belonging. The formation process is deeply communal, where candidates and their families pray together, support each other, and walk side by side in service to the Church. As the world changes, MACC prepares future deacons to meet challenges with cultural awareness, compassion, and heart for pastoral ministry.
This is your call to action—to support this vital mission and help us continue forming leaders who serve with humility and hope. The 2024 Deacons Gala was a testament to the dedication and love that our deacons bring to their ministry and are excited to announce our 2026 Deacons Gala happening on Friday, November 6, 2026!
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our honorees, sponsors, guests, and everyone who made last year’s event special. A special thank you to our 2024 Gala Deacon Chair, Deacon Ramón and Mrs. Marta Figueroa, and to the Suniga family for honoring the late Deacon Francisco Suniga, who remains forever in our hearts. We also celebrated Deacon Richard Neville’s remarkable 50 years of diaconate service. Your support helps bring faith, hope, and love into a broken world. Meet our 2025 MACC Deacons Gala Chair
Deacon Roger and Mrs. Esther Macias
Deacon Roger and Esther Macias have been married for 38 years.
They are the parents of two children, Devin and her husband Weston
and Trey and his wife Samantha.
Deacon Roger has been in a solo dental practice since 1983 and Esther is the General Manager of “Los Padrecitos, the Gift Shop of San Fernando Cathedral.
They have always recognized the strong presence of God in their lives since they began dating in 1986. After having been ordained a Deacon in 2016, Deacon Roger and Esther have been very involved in many roles and committees in the Archdiocese of San Antonio and at San Fernando Cathedral where he is assigned. Deacon Roger is a member of the Catholic Charities Board of Directors and Esther is on the Board of Advisors of Catholic Charities Guadalupe Home.
