SAN ANTONIO – The Mexican American Catholic College (MACC) is excited to welcome Fr. Michael Patella as principal speaker for MACC’s Cultura Católica Day 2024, when he will discuss “Revitalization of Imagination in Biblical Exegesis: The Saint John’s Bible, Art and the Hispanic Legacy”.
When the Bible Task Force first convened to set the direction and scope of The Saint John’s Bible, an objective it sought to promote was the melding of imagination and scholarship within the Church and Academy. The importance of the imagination at first might appear to some as a trifle, but such a seeming afterthought obscures a tectonic force in play. Fr Michael Patella, OSB, the Chair of the Committee on Illumination and Texts for The Saint John’s Bible, will discuss the interplay of The Saint John’s Bible, Art, and Hispanic culture in revitalizing biblical interpretation.
Fr. Patella, a Benedictine monk, is a professor of New Testament at St. John’s School of Theology at Saint John’s University. He also serves as a seminary rector, and is the director of the graduate school’s Holy Land Studies Program.
Mass will begin at 11:15 at MACC at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. Students and the General Public are invited to attend from 5:30-6:30PM in Alfaro Hall. To register for the event please click HERE. To join us online for the livestreamed event on Facebook, please click HERE.
