The Mexican American Catholic College (MACC) continues its mission of forming leaders for service and ministry in a culturally diverse church.
#SomosMACC

From Fr. Juan’s Desk…
Dear MACC Community,
I am thrilled to announce the relaunching of the Somos MACC Newsletter! After a pause since the pandemic in 2020, faculty and staff are excited to reconnect with you and share the incredible things happening at the Mexican American Catholic College. This relaunch is more than just a newsletter—it’s a way for us to engage with our vibrant MACC community and keep you informed about the inspiring work and growth taking place here.
In Somos MACC, you’ll get an inside look at the experiences of our students, their journeys of faith, ministry, and academic growth. You’ll learn about the programs we offer, from theology and pastoral studies to language and cultural formation, and see how MACC continues to empower those called to serve the Church and her diverse communities.
Most importantly, this newsletter will reflect the heart of MACC—our faith-filled relationships with students, faculty, staff, partners—and you. MACC is a true gem where anyone seeking to deepen their ministry and grow in faith is welcomed and supported. The gospel values of hospitality and community are not only explored through studies but lived in our experiences together.
We are truly excited for you to join us on this journey. Thank you for being part of the MACC family, we can’t wait to share this new chapter with you!
Blessings,
Rev. Juan Molina, PhD
President & CEO

Praying For Our New Pope

Statement from Fr. Juan Molina, President and CEO of MACC regarding election of Pope Leo XIV:
“I am excited and thankful about Pope Leo XIV!
Some of you know that I worked at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for close to ten years, and for about eight years I traveled throughout Latin America visiting many dioceses and congregations.
During that time, I met many lay, religious and priests who were missionaries from the United States. And one of those many missionary priests is Pope Leo XIV! The Diocese of Chiclayo, where Robert Prevost was bishop, is in northern Peru and is a poor diocese that—like many others in Peru—is served by religious priests and other dedicated missionaries.
So, Pope Leo XIV represents the best American Catholics—lay, consecrated religious, and priests—give—of themselves, for the greater glory of God and the wellbeing of the faithful People of God.
By his first words, I can tell that—while he will say many new things—Pope Leo XIV will not only lead us in faith but will also strengthen and affirm many things Pope Francis did and spoke. I am certainly excited for our church!
May we, American Catholics, be united not only with our sisters and brothers in Latin America but across the globe!
Let us pray for our new Pope!”

In Case You Missed It!
Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century

MACC responds to the voice of the Church in the U.S. by addressing this need for renewal. One such response is the “Hispanic Ministry in the 21st Century” (HM21C) program. This program offers a comprehensive overview of the culture, history, and faith expressions of Mexican Americans. It seeks to deepen the appreciation of the multicultural diversity in our society and guides students through a process of understanding the opportunities, challenges, priorities, and complexities of Hispanic Ministry today.
Community Days Are Back and MACC Is Where It’s At!

From humble beginnings 50+ years ago MACC has grown, and this is an exciting time to join us as a student! From California to Minnesota, from south Texas to North Dakota, MACC’s online and in-person certificate and degree-seeking students enjoy unique learning experiences, providing the academic portion of their pastoral ministry formation. Cross-programmatic classes, provoking engaging thought, and lively group discussions, coupled with immersive opportunities, set MACC apart.

Permanent Lay Acolyte And Lector Ministry
“I have always had a call to serve our Lord. I have been serving in my parish as a Lector and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for several years, but still I desired to do more.”

Called to Action: The Fruit of Pragmatic Sensationalism
“It’s the kind of bold pastoral response that doesn’t settle for passive listening. It moves. It serves. It stirs. It risks loving where it’s uncomfortable.”

Attention Deacons!
MACC and Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary have partnered through a Lilly Endowment grant to launch the “Sustained Encuentro” initiative. This collaboration focuses on forming pastoral leaders for service in diverse, especially Hispanic and rural, communities. Saint John’s invites you to The Nolan Lecture: Theology of the Permanent Diaconate on September 12-13, 2025.
