Fr. Anthony Ruff, O.S.B. will present “Receiving Communion: It’s More
Than You Might Think!” at St. John Hall at Assumption Seminary at 5:30pm Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026 as MACC’s Cultura Católica Day Speaker.
SAN ANTONIO – The Mexican American Catholic College (MACC) is excited to welcome Fr. Anthony Ruff, O.S.B. as principal speaker for MACC’s Cultura Católica Day 2026, when he will present “Receiving Communion: It’s More Than You Might Think!”.
Meet Fr. Anthony Ruff, O.S.B., an Associate Professor of Theology (Liturgy & Liturgical Music) at Saint John’s University School of Theology and Seminary. He is a Benedictine monk of Saint John’s Abbey in Minnesota who teaches liturgy and liturgical music in St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary. He is organist and director of abbey music. He has been on the leadership boards of the Society for Catholic Liturgy, the Catholic Academy of Liturgy, the Hymn Society, and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. He chaired the international committee that wrote the English chant for the 2011 Roman Missal and was on the committee that helped draft the 2007 document of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference, Sing to the Lord: Music in Divine Worship.
His talk will address the many deep meanings of the Communion rite in the Catholic liturgy, and what this rite can mean for our spirituality, our love of neighbor, and our work for justice. And we’ll see that the Eucharist is closely tied to the Catholic Church’s journey toward greater synodality.
Mass will begin at 11:15am at MACC at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. Students and the General Public are invited to attend from 5:30-6:30PM at Assumption Seminary (2600 W. Woodlawn Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78228) in St. John’s Hall. To register for the event please click HERE. To join us online for the livestreamed event on Facebook, please click HERE.
